Highfield F.C. 3 v 2 Bliby 27- 09 - 09
Highfield got off to a slow start going down 1-0 to Bliby when a defencive error was
latched onto by Makus Hodges from Bliby who finished from 6 yards. Highfield then equalised
from the Spot with Daryl Steatham putting the ball beyond the keepers reach after
Jonty was barged over in the penalty area. The Bliby Captain was shown the red card and
were then down to 10 men.
At half time the score was 1-1 and Highfield came out the stronger after the break having
several chances to take the lead which finally came when Luke Henderson
crossed the ball into the box and it was headed home by a Bliby player.
Bliby responded instantly with a free kick put into the top far corner of the net from
Makus hodges for his second in the match to make it 2-2.
Highfield were not done there though as Lloyd Dehara struck from close range to put Highfield 3-2 up
and could have made it another when he hit the cross bar. Centre back Mick for Highfeild was then
shown the red card to put Highfield down to 10 men bringing down Markus Hodges just outside the area.
With 2 minutes to go Bliby thought they had got an equaliser when Markus Hodges netted again only for
it to be ruled offside.
Highfield have now won 2 out of 2 in their first season in the premier.

Highfield United of the premier division played Prince Albert of Division 4 in a cup game and cruised through to the
next round even though Prince Albert gave it everything they had to try and prevent them. Asa McKenzie opened the
scoring for Highfield and went close on several more occasionbefore Mark Saunders latched on to one of McKenzie’s
crosses to make it 2-0 from 6 yards. Darren Harris then scored a third from 25 yards out lobbing the Prince Albert
keeper on the line. At 3-0 it was all looking to easy for Highfield and then a defensive header from Mark Saunders
was latched on to and netted by a Prince Albert Striker to make the score 3-1 at half time and give them a life line.
In the second half left back Darren Harris got his second of the match from close range before a great run from Adam
Bellman and a one two with Captain Daryl Steatham saw Bellman Smash the ball home. If it hadn't been for the heroics
of the Prince Albert keeper the score could have easily been into double figures.

After an earlier meeting in the season where Highfield United beat Troggs 1-0 - you just knew it would be a very different game
this time with Troggs fielding their strongest team of the season so far. Highfield got about there job early and for the first 25
minutes could have been 3 or 4 goals up. The break through came, when Lloyd Dehara skipped past the last defender and
held him off to coolly lob the on rushing goal keeper. Troggs hadn't troubled the Highfield defence once but netted twice within
minutes to put them 2-1 up when a lapse in concentration saw Highfield get punished.
Highfield equalised when Sammy crossed for Jonty Venter to head in at the far post to make it 2-2 at Half-time. In the second
half Highfield again dominated the play but again found them selves going a goal behind when Mick Lunn's clearance was
volley into the roof of the net by Richard Moon of Troggs. Highfield got themselves back in the game again when Luke
Henderson broke through and beat the offside trap to net from close range. With Minutes to go Highfield gambled and pushed
for the win and eventually it game when a cross into the box found Jonty Venter all alone with the keeper to beat which he
did to win the game and put Highfield 4-3 up and into second place in the Premier Division with only last years winners Market
above them. Man of the Match was Daryl Steatham

Daryl Steatham
Highfield United's 22 games unbeaten run finally came to an end after they lost their first game in the League to Bromley Green
2-1. Bromley had the better start and had the majority of possession but it was Highfield that struck first when Sam's pass split
the Bromley defence apart for Daryl Steatham to run 40 yards on to the ball and slip the ball under the on rushing keeper. It was
not long Before Bromley equalised though, when a throw in was not cleared and the ball fell kindly to the Bromley Captain to
smash the ball home from 12 yards.
In the second half the game was much more even with both sides having half chances to take the lead but with minutes to go on
the clock it was Bromley that got the winner when Dan from Bromley Green suspiciously looking offside broke free and chipped
the Highfield keeper.

After loosing their first league match in 22 games Highfield United met Bromley Green again only two weeks later to loose by the
same score line 2-1.
The predominant weather conditions was heavy rain and gusty winds which Bromley had in their favour in the first half and so had
the better start and majority of possession but Highfield had contained them well and it took a powerful strike from the Bromley
player Rocky to blast the ball home and put them into a 1-0 lead at half time. In the second half neither team created many
chances and apart from a few goal mouth scrambles there was nothing between the sides. Ex Highfield player Joe Mifsud
(likes to be called misfud) now playing for Bromley got in front of the Highfield keeper to head the ball in off the cross bar to put
Bromley 2-0 up. With 10 minutes to go Danny Taylor turned several players before curling the ball round the Bromley keeper to
bring it back to 2-1 and the final 10 minutes was all Highfield who piled on the pressure but couldn't find that equalising goal
they were looking for.

Its been a long winter with Highfield having played only twice in 16 weeks and with still players missing through injury and work
commitments Highfield had a different line up in defence with Asa Mckenzie fitting in at Right back and Luke Henderson
playing centre back. Neither team started particularly well with most of the first half being a midfield battle and long balls being
played, but it was Highfield that got the break through, when Danny Taylor whipped the ball into the box for Darryl Steatham to
force the ball into the net from close range.
There were chances at both ends, the better ones falling to Highfield who couldn't capitalise on them before the break.
In the second half a free kick given near the corner flag for Mersham was curled straight into the far corner of the net by
M Howells to level the game up. But within minutes a corner for Highfield was headed in by Jonty Venter to but Highfields back
into a 2-1 lead. As the game went on chance after chance for both teams went bye and in the dying seconds of the game
Mersham should have leveled the game and taken it into extra time, only to see their goal bound effort go over the cross bar
from 3 yards out.

After loosing their cup match against Market Hotel a few weeks earlier 5 v 3 Highfield had a tough task ahead of them trying to
beat last years premier division winners. Highfield got off to a good start giving very few chances away to Market and took an
early lead when Daryl Steatham latched on to a cross ball to beat the Market keeper at the near post. There was few chances
at either end both teams not giving much away and at Hialf-time Highfield had kept their 1-0 lead. In the second half again
it was highfield creating the better chances and frustrating Market more and more with good individual performances from left
back Darren Harris and Sam Beale in Midfield.
Danny Taylor had his first shot saved but followed up with a header to put Highfield into a comfortable 2-0 lead. Within minutes
of the restart Market were awarded a soft penalty to make it 2-1. Market stepped up their game and played 4 up front with 20
minutes to go and Highfield were under constant pressure. With 7 minutes to go a long ball caught out the Highfield defense
and the centre forward lobbed the on rushing Highfield keeper Dan Regan to make it 2-2. Regan made a great save at the end
of the game to earn Highfield a well deserved but disappointing point.

After beating Prince Albert 5 v 1 in the first round of the Ashford Charity Trophy, Highfield were determined to have a better
Cup run than last year and make it to the final 8 teams. Aldington were relegated from the Premier Division when Highfield
got promoted from division 1 after winning the league last season. Aldington were out to prove they deserve to be in the
Premier and put Highfield under some early pressure and got their breakthrough when Highfield Dan regan went to clear the
ball for it to stop short of him in a puddle and fall kindly for the Aldington striker to tap the ball into an empty net. It wasn’t long
before Highfield were back on level terms with Asa McKenzie leaping like a salmon to out jump the defence and keeper to
head the ball into the net. Highfield had most of the possession but were not creating many clear cut chances where as
Aldington had several chances to regain the lead with a goal disallowed for a foul on the keeper and a shot hitting the post
and rebounding to the Highfield Keeper. But with only seconds to go on the clock Asa Mckenzie broke free and out paced
the Aldington defence to calmly net the winning goal.

Brewmaster F.C. 1 v 0 Highfield F.C.
Going on Brewmasters previous results this game had goals written all over it, but with 20 minutes gone it was still goal less.
Finally the deadlock was broken when a cross into the Highfield’s box was caught by Highfield Keeper Dan Regan but
dropped when he hit the ground and the Bremaster striker netted the ball calmly.
Brewmaster came close a second time when Jonty Venter hit his own cross bar with the ball bouncing on the goal line and
out again. Highfield had a disappointing game on a short bumpy pitch and found it hard to put any passing moves together.
In the second half Highfield played much better but couldn’t finish any of their chances and level up the game.
These teams play each other twice in three days, meeting in the cup on Tuesday evening.

After only having played and lost to Brewmaster a few days earlier in the league Highfield had a tough order to overcome
Brewmaster again so soon but this time without their keeper or usual strikers. Asa McKenzie went up front and Danny
Taylor in goal for Highfield and with other players missing for the mid week game Highfield needed to get off to a good
start. On Highfields new home pitch at the ridge on a windy evening Highfield started the same as they did on Sunday
disapointing. Highfield had their chances but again couldn't turn them into goals and it was Brewmaster that took the lead
again just before half time when a high ball into the air was headed in by the Brewmaster centre back. In the second half
the wind died down and either team could have got the next goal but Brewmaster’s broke down the right hand side and
crossed a low ball into the box and when it wasn’t dealt with at the front post, the Brewmaster striker had only the keeper
to beat. At 2 - 0 Brewmaster thought the game was all over but when Daryl Streatham was brought down in the penalty
box and then smashed the ball home from the spot they were back in the game. Highfield then should have made it 2 - 2
when a deflected clearance hit the Brewmaster post and came out again it just wasn’t going to be their night. With minutes
To go in the game Brewmaster themselves hit the post and then from a free kick the same centre back for Brewmaster
headed in again to make it 3 - 1 and finish the game off.

What a weekend of football, United last minute winner against City, Spurs beating Chelsea and Wigan from 2 - 0 down beating
Asenal. Well Highfield also got back to winning ways with a 4 - 1 win over current league table rivals Kennington. Kennington
being one place above Highfield in the league but having played 5 more games found themselves having to defend most of the
first half as Highfield pressed for an early lead. A Highfield corner saw Luke Henderson’s header blocked on the goal line only
for Asa Mckenzie to force the ball in the goal and give Highfield a 1 - 0 lead. Asa McKenzie then hit a coss field ball
that found left back Darren Harris racing forward to get on too and blast past the Kennington keeper. Luke Henderson made it
3 - 0 before half time when he chipped the on rushing Kennington keeper. In the second half Kennington pushed forwards to
Get them selves back in the game but got caught out when Danny Taylor made it 4 - 0 from close range. Kennington kept
Pressing and finally got their goal when the ball was lost in Midfield for Highfield and the shot came off the bottom of the
Highfield keeper Dan Regan’s boot to roll in slowly at the far post and make the final score 4-1. Highfield now leap frog
Kennington in the league table on goal difference with 5 games in hand.

Previous winners of Division 1 Highfield met their old rivals who finished behind them in 2nd place last season Mersham on
Tuesday evening. Highfield started the brighter and got an early goal when new top goal scorer Asa Mckenzie dived in at
to put the visitors 1 - 0 up. Highfield then had a spell when nothing would go right and let Mersham back in the the game and
they went close by hitting the bar and then finally equalised when Highfield didn’t clear their lines. Even though Highfields
keeper and defenders saved the ball from going in at the first attempt the second shot from close range could not be stopped.
At half time the score was 1 - 1 and Highfield needed a wake up call.
In the second half Highfield played much better and didn’t let the Mersham strikers get in the game. Daryl Streatham picked up
the ball in mid field and drove forward whipping a cross into the front post for Jonty Venter to throw himself and volley the ball into
the net to put Highfield 2 - 1 up. Left footed Darren Harris then went on a solo run from left back and side stepped the last
defender to blast the Mersham keeper with his RIGHT foot to put Highfield 3 - 1 in the lead. Unfortunately with 5 minutes to go
Adam Bellman looks like he could be out for the rest of the season when he turned and pulled his cruciate knee ligaments.
With Highfield already using their 3 subs they played out the rest of the game with 10 men and held out for a 3 - 1 win.

Bliby got off to a good start against Highfield and could have been 2-0 up if it wasn’t for some fine goal keeping from Dan
Regan for Highfield. But it was Highfield against the run of play that took the lead through a Luke Henderson goal. Within
minutes Bliby has leveled the game up with a quick free kick that caught the Highfield keeper out. Highfield then lost centre
back Mick Lunn through an injury and with only 1 sub had to reorganize the team. Highfield & Bliby both had their chances to
take the lead but at the break it was still 1-1.
In the second half Highfield got more and more into the game but found themselves 2-1 down when again Bliby were allowed
to run at the Highfield defence. With 15 minutes to go Highfield threw everything at Bliby they had and yet chance after chance
when begging. With only a few minutes to go a Highfield free kick on the edge of the Bliby area saw everyone including the
Highfield keeper inside the Bliby half but the shot from Darren Harris when just wide. Straight from the goal kick Highfield were
back on the attack and again pushed everyone forward and Highfield keeper Dan Regan now down the right wing crossed the
ball into the box for Lloyd Dehara to head in and make the score 2-2 right on full time.
Now in to Extra Time and Highfield more than onto of the game should have gone on to win the game but with 2 quick goals
from the Bliby centre forward in the first period of extra time had Highfield on the back foot and they had nothing to respond with.
4-2 down in the second half of extra time again Highfield pressured Bliby but with some fine saves from the Bliby keeper
Highfield could not reply.

After playing Bliby in the Semi final of the cup and it going into extra time 2 days earlier Highfield and Bliby were still recovering
from the game. Bliby brought in a few new faces including Pat Kingwell and in the first half he made a big difference to the game
as he ripped through the Highfield defence and caused no end of problems. Highfield defence had a terrible first half and
conceded 3 soft goals giving no cover to their keeper Dan Regan. The fourth goal was a chip from 25 yards over the Highfield
keeper.
At half time being 4-0 down there seemed to be no way back for Highfield but when Lloyd Dehara broke through and when one
on one with the Bliby keeper and side footed the ball into the net there seemed a ray of hope. Unfortunately within minutes Bliby
made it 5-1 with the softest goal of the game not being cleared off the line from the Highfield defence. Sorry Boys.
Highfield again pulled a goal back to make it 5-2 when Jonty Venter got on the end of a Sam Beale free kick to finish from close
range. But once again Bliby pulled further in front making it 6-2. Highfield should have pulled a few more goals back but only got
one when again Jonty Venter broke free to make the final score 6-3.
