The Formation of HIGHFIELD UNITED Football Club
Lynda Woodcock was cleaning her son’s bedroom and happened to find an amount of money. When her son Mark,
returned from school he was interrogated and the story starts.
Early in 1985 a small group children, from Willesborough Junior School,. began to play football together after
school. This small group grew in numbers, so the boys involved decided to form a team, so they could play other
teams at weekends and after school. Mark had been collecting money so a football kit could be purchased.
Parents of the boys involved were contacted and a meeting was arranged. The feeling of the parents was that
a club should be formed, with a committee and elected personal. This would only be done if all the children
involved approved of the plan. With approval a club was formed “Highfield Utd Football Club”, a chairman
elected Mr. Bill Collins, secretary Mrs June Woodcock, treasurer Mrs Pat Collins.Mr.Pat Ades became the first
manager, under 10’s.
This team played friendly for a number of months and then entered the East Kent Youth League. The following
year another team was formed with other children from the Willesborough area .With passing of time the club
has grown to where it is today, playing teams in the EKYL, ASYL and ASMFL. Ages ranges from 8 years upwards
all enjoying the game of football
The same values as the club started “enjoyment with participation”.
