PARK FARM RANGERS 3 V  HIGHFIELD UNITED 7
16th AUG 09
A warm  and hazy morning set the scene for this Under 14’s opening friendly at Furley Park School. The team, wearing their new
kit, were looking for the win to make up for the defeat suffered in last years Cup qualifiers, and win they did.  A shaky start saw
both teams  unsettled for 15-20 minutes until Nathan scored the opener and Highfield’s confidence began to show.  Park Farm
equalised and both teams began to up the pace.  Highfield had the better of the chances in the first half that finished 2 - 3 in their
favour with further goals from Nathan 1 and Jack 1. The second half  saw a number of changes in the formation tightening
defence and a number of chances going begging in the oppositions area.  However goals ensued from Nathan 1, Lee 2 and
Jack 1 to secure the match comfortably.  All in all a superb start by the lads.

As my old friend David Bowie once said “If we could be hero’s for only one day” well could today be that day?
Due to an earlier hand injury to Jordan the dynamics of the team had to be changed and for this of all matches a top of the table
and quite possibly season defining match. The stakes were high and for this to be one of our golden years every player had to
give their best.  So on a cold drizzly Sunday afternoon in Hythe we took to the bobbly sticky uneven pitch.

Team changes included Jack Prytherch replacing Jordan in goal , Ellis taking Jacks place on the left and Rudy  joining  with
Lee up front. The match kicks off.  Both teams start confidently and is evenly match in the early encounters with the home side
having the slight edge. Then a good interchanging move down the left by Stars and Stripes, ends in a shot resulting in a fist
confidence boosting save for Jack P.  Highfield are slightly off their game at this stage.
Then we get into our stride our passing game improves and a confidence grows. The resulting in a wave of strong attacks and
several corners one of which taken by Ollie (who took some quit excellent corners for most of the match) is whipped in to a rising
Lee who heads but it just knocks on the wood of the post. Several other good moves by us end in more good chances one of
which was a particularly good involving Ellis a neat ball to Lee, Rudy calls and Lee looks up delivers a swift pass to him, Rudy in
turn moves the ball on to Samir, Rudy calls and gets a quick return pass, Rudy runs on shoots but saved. Good sound and vision
by Rudy.  We are well into the fist half and both teams at playing well. Samir is rampant down the right and creates more chances
with his running and crosses. Ellis strong down the left and Reece very confident in defence. There is a good shape about the
team at this stage. Ollie then spies Lee with a good strong pass great shot cleared of the line, yet another corner. Then Reece
collects the ball in mid park sets off on a good strong runs like a lad insane ending with a great cross.  Apart from a ball over the
top tactic we are containing Stars and Stripes. Then from another one of our attacks and admittedly we have a few players out of
position Stars and Stripes break down the left get a cross over the ball bounces kindly for them in the area and they score.
Its just before half time and against the run off play such sorrow. Second half starts (and we need a quick goal)
We start on the front foot commanding the early play with Samir again strong down his wing and creating more chances, what a
starman performance he has put in today. Ryan who was quietly effective in the first half also continues his form throughout the
second half and is awarded man of the match. A example of our determination.  Stars and Stripes form an attack they attempt a
shot Chris bravely blocks gets up and blocks another wins the ball passes back to Jack P who clears with a massive kick up field
resulting in another chance and another near miss.  Another corner by Ollie, this boy keeps swinging them corners in, this time
the keeper gets a finger tip to it thankfully it drops to the in rushing Samir who scores. At last.
From the kick off we keep Stars and Stripes under pressure with good movement and passing strong tackles and Ryan keeping
things moving through the middle and lays a sweet pass to Chris who in turn finds Reece who using his skill and  strength goes
buy several defenders and could only be knocked of the ball by a foul committed in the opponents half by the centre circle.
Ollie takes. what can he fashion out of this! The ball placed he looks he runs he shoots he scores what joy, lets dance!  2 - 2
We have the momentum and are in the ascendance. We clear a corner defended by Rudy it goes to Jack Gower
(who also is having a good match) he lays the ball to Connor who releases Ellis he turns shoots its saved falls to Samir who had
run 2/3rds off the pitch and he just arrived a bit late to turn it in. Then as an attack of ours breaks down (ultimately due to an injury
to Rudy) Stars and Stripes start an attack. The ref stops play for the injury. We are slow to react and from the re start the ball over
the top catches us out the attacker runs on scuffs a shot that dribbles by Jack P and slowly into the net. Like a freshly landed fish
we are gutted.  We respond by rolling up our sleeves and getting on with it and keep playing with five minutes to go and having
been the stronger team we could win it. But it was not to be.
From a clearance from the Stars and Stripes goalie Ollie rises to head he gets just under the ball and it goes backwards towards
a Stars and Stripes player, no probs though Jack Gowers there but for the first time in the match he miss times the tackle and
they run through to score. In the remaining minutes we press for an equaliser, sadly its not to be so it’s Stars and Stripes who are
dancing in the streets.

So if you are looking for hero’s go look at the team sheet and you will see 14 of them.

Against Hugin Viking B
Kick Off             2.00 pm

We gathered for our first match after our first defeat.  This was an important game–a game we dare lose. A game in fact
where 3 points and as many goals as possible was a minimum requirement to keep our title hopes alive. So on a bright
bitterly cold afternoon, with a cross wind that froze you to the bone and a pitch that would not be out of place on the south side
face of Eiger, we kicked off against Hugin Viking B.  How would we perform? What response would we get? What character
would we show?  All this was answered in our first attack. As straight from the kick off Ollie was released down the right wing,
he floats a delicious cross into the penalty area for Lee to leap high and score. 1-0   - all within 30 seconds.  It set the tone for
the match.   A match that we became increasing dominant by playing good football (as well as the conditions would allow)
created many many many chances (only hope we don’t regret the missed ones at the end of the season) and scored 13 goals
(one with the assistance of their defender).
Goal scorers in descending order were as follows: Jack Prytherch – 4 , Lee Marsden – 3, Ellis Hawkins – 2, Ollie Perkins – 1,
Rudie Biggington – 1, Connor Herbert – 1, and the Hugin Vikings B defender – 1.   TOTAL = 13
It was not a display just of goal scorers but for those players to score the goals it needed a strong determined team to put in a
selfless performance and for every player to play their part……and more. And this is what this team is. A team of determined
strong individuals reluctant to give in – determined to win. There was no man of the match – there was a team of the match
and hopefully that team will get its just rewards and will win this title.
For every goal scored a pass had to be made. For a pass to be made the ball had to be won. For the ball to be won you
had to make a tackle. To make a tackle you needed determination and that is what this performance was all about –
DETERMINATION.

Match Report – Sunday 14th March 2010
Highfield United V Dawes Herne Hill Herons

After last weeks fine team performance we all knew we had to continue with the same momentum this week to make sure we
secured the points and the all important goals.  Our cause was aided by the fact that Dawes Herne Hill Herons arrived with a
reduced side of only 8 players. Soon after kick-off the tone of the match was set with us scoring several early goals. Most teams
in this situation would have let their heads drop, their discipline wane, stopped playing their football and basically given up.
BUT NOT DAWES HERNE HILL HERONS who were to be rightly applauded for their continued drive, attitude and commitment
to this game – a game they finished as they started with plenty of running, tackling, enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
Any league is a better league with teams such as this as an example - an example I hope our players will learn from. Match
concluded with us winning the goals scorers being:
· Lee M              6
· Jack P              4
· Elliot H             4
· Conner H         2
· Matt D             2
· Rudy B            1
· Ollie P              1
· Ryan F             1
And so to our final game against Hugin Vikings Under 14s A .We need another strong team performance that should hopefully
see us finish as league winners.

It’s going to be close…………………

SITTINGBOURNE LIONS JFC
SUN 13TH JUNE

After building on last week's tournament, where one of our teams reached the final, we went into the
Sittingbourne Lions Tournament with huge determination.  Competition being much tougher than the
previous week, the first two games were losses, one to a team which were Mush League winners the
previous year - and we were able to still hold them to a draw in the first half of that game.  The second
two games were won - the team totally outplayed both teams being well organised, having a great team
spirit and maintained superior passing throughout the games.
Highfield U'14s were a credit to their club and showed professionalism throughout the tournament.  Well
done boys - it's been a great two weeks of football and we now need to carry this into the next season.
